 Noche de Tango

Saturday  7 March – St John’s Hoxton

Singer Andria Antoniou and guitarist Ignacio Lusardi Monteverde present an intimate evening of music and dance featuring tango and Argentine folklore.

Joined by guitarist Giancarlo Garcia Viera, Julian Rowlands (bandoneón) and guest tango dancers, Adrien Bariki-Alaoui & Iro Davlanti-Lo, this concert weaves songs from the tango repertoire - tango, vals, and milonga - with Argentine folklore, shaped by different landscapes: tango reflecting the pulse of the city and shaped by migration, longing, desire, and belonging, and folklore rooted in the land, rural life, community, and the challenges of everyday life.

Alongside Argentine tango and folklore, the programme includes Greek tangos from the interwar era, when tango became a powerful cultural force in Greece. Shaped by recordings, travelling musicians, and shared histories of migration, economic struggle, and strong community bonds, Greek tango blended Argentine rhythms with Greek sensibilities. This repertoire reveals a soulful dialogue between the two cultures, where tango became a space for longing, resilience, and belonging - reflecting not only its history, but also Andria & Ignacio’s own journeys and where they come from.
